How Did We Get Employee Motivation so Horribly Wrong?

How did we arrive at a world where: 1) only 30% of employees care about their work, 2) half of us will suffer from a mental illness, and 3) crime and drug abuse are rampant? Much of the blame can be placed at the feet of a small group of engineers
who cobbled together a concept called "scientific management" 100 years ago. The speaker will expose "scientific" management for what it is; a demeaning, un-scientific, inefficient system that fails to tap into the power and energy of
the human spirit.
- Explain a fundamental flaw in the capitalist system; a complete misunderstanding of human motivation.
- Provide a greater appreciation for the elegant motivational "engine" and hums or sputters inside all organizations.
- Explain how to bring out the best in people by activating the motivational "cylinders" described in the Harvard 4-drive model.
Speaker Bio: Paul Herr - Researchers at the Incentive Research Foundation (IRF) and Maritz discovered my book, Primal Management, and my five-drive model of employee motivation six years ago. They noticed that my approach
was very similar to the popular 4-drive model developed by the Harvard Professors, Nitin Nohria, the current dean of the Harvard Business School, and Paul Lawrence, and organizational behavior pioneer. Since then, I have: written a research
report on behavioral science for the IRF, spoken at an Enterprise Engagement Alliance (EEA) event in Chicago, and marketed my Horsepower System™ employee-engagement software to prominent companies in the incentive, reward and recognition
industry. It is the only human-performance software based on the Harvard 4-drive model.
Speaker Bio: R Scott Russell - Scott has more than 15 years of experience in Rewards & Recognition. He is a Certified Recognition Professional (since 2006), as designated by Recognition Professionals International
and has served as an officer on their Board of Directors since 2012. He is the current President of RPI. Scott began his career in Rewards & Recognition as the Corporate Sales Manager for RedEnvelope, where he focused on Holiday Gift

Panelist Bio: Kristy Celis, MHA, PHR, SHRM-CP, Cone Health is the Assistant Director of Employee Partnership & Shared Services for Cone Health. Her primary areas of accountability include employee
relations, centralized HR services and rewards and recognition. She led the implementation of a new system-wide rewards and recognition program called CHeeRS, which stands for Cone Health Employee Recognition System. She also introduced
the organization to her personal recognition philosophy encouraging leaders to Recognize, Appreciate and Acknowledge their team members, or “RAA!” as she likes to say in keeping with the CHeeRS theme. She has worked in healthcare Human
Resources since 2006, and is most passionate about partnering with employees and leaders to better the work environment. She is an advocate for helping employees feel valued and believes a thank you goes a long way. Kristy is a graduate
of the University of Utah and received a Master of Health Administration from Weber State University.

We're just two perspectives and we don't attempt to stereotype or represent all perspectives here, but we hope that these discussions will give others courage to engage and get to know one another better. Speaker Bio: Susan Hall - Susan has over twenty -five years’ experience in the field of recognition and engagement. Susan is the first person in Oklahoma to obtain her CRP designation. She has used her knowledge in her field developing and managing recognition and engagement programs with the world’s largest satellite entertainment company DIRECTV world-wide, to building recognition programs while her former founder and CEO became Governor of Oklahoma. Today, Susan is the Director of Corporate Events and Community Outreach for Gateway First Bank. In her role with Gateway, Susan develops corporate giving, recognition and engagement programs, manages corporate events and volunteerism. Susan holds a degree in early child hood and has received many accolades for her contributions to the community engagement field.
Susan is a culture champion who’s motivated by employee results. Susan is a mentor, community volunteer, mom, inspired leader and a savvy strategist. Susan enjoys telling a good story and a colossal white chocolate mocha cup of coffee!
