New Rules of Recognition: Moments You Can Leverage

Session Description

Harnessing the power of employee motivation at work can be a transformational opportunity for leaders. Purposeful and well-developed external rewards and recognition programs, balanced with intrinsic forms of motivation can propel employees to do their best work. More intrinsic forms of motivation, combined with the right incentives, at the right time, can also go a long way in driving a positive and compelling culture of recognition. Audience members should expect to be challenged and to take action toward creating a more positive, recognition driven experiences of work that are lasting and meaningful and that impact employee’s emotionally.

Speaker

Dr. Brad Shuck is Associate Professor and Program Director of the Organizational Leadership and Learning program in the Department of Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development at the University of Louisville. He also serves as Principle Consultant of LEAD Research, LLC, an advanced human resource analytics consulting group focused on emerging technologies related to leadership, engagement, and design. His primary areas of research include the application, meaning, and measurement of employee engagement, emerging areas of positive psychology, and leader development. He has given presentations and conducted research in four of the seven continents across the globe and his research featured in refereed journals such as Leadership and Organizational Studies, the Journal of Happiness Studies, Human Resource Development ReviewHuman Resource Development QuarterlyCouple and Family Psychology: Research and PracticeHuman Resource Development InternationalHuman Resource Management, Group and Organizational Management, Journal of Children’s Health Care, and the Journal of Management Development. He is routinely cited in US-based international media outlets including ForbesThe Washington Post, and TIME, as well as international outlets including Business World Online and the Hindu Times.

Shuck was named the 2016 Early Career Scholar by the Academy of Human Resource Development and has received several awards for his applied research, including the AHRD Excellence in Scholarly Practice (2016), the Child-Life Council Research-to-Practice Award (2015), the E F Holton III Outstanding Article of the Year (2013 and 2015) and the Advances in Developing Human Resources Outstanding Issue of the Year (2011). Shuck was recognized as a Faculty Favorite at UofL in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and named one of the Top Four Faculty Favorites in 2016. 

Shuck is a Commonwealth Scholar and a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He holds faculty affiliate status with the Department of Counseling and Human Development (UofL) and has done extensive work with the United States Army Cadet-Command, Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
