Brian Dodds, CRP, WorkStride

With over 15 years of experience helping clients to determine best in class solutions by taking into account company history, current culture, desired culture, executive and employee input as well as the most current practices in the world of incentives and rewards, Brian's goal is to help create the unique solution that is the true representation of each company and drives employee motivation towards corporate objectives.

Brian has been involved with RPI for over a decade and has supported the organization in a variety of leadership roles. He previously served as the President for Recognition Professionals International and was the winner of the Harkins-Howell Education Award in 2012. He is a graduate of Texas Tech University with degrees in Psychology and Classical Literature.


Dee Hansford, CRP, Dee Hansford Consulting

As a former manager of Walt Disney World's Cast Communications and Cast Recognition departments, she understands the leader's perspective. As an internal coach, consultant and facilitator, she led the design and implementation of Walt Disney World's first global recognition program, Partners in Excellence. The task involved coaching over 6,000 leaders in recognition/communication skills. Participation in the program increased 76% in one year while cast satisfaction ratings of local day-to-day recognition increased 15%.

Shortly after forming Dee Hansford Consulting, Dee was hired to help California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) create a recognition-based culture to support their strategic business objectives. CalPERS' employee and customer satisfaction scores have risen dramatically, productivity and teamwork have been enhanced and CalPERS is considered a "destination" employer, receiving the Recognition Professional International’s Best Program Award for 2002. California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) employed Dee as a consultant to design their recognition infrastructure which received the RPI “Best Overall Program” Award in 2012.

Dee openly shares her recognition know-how by contributing to the continued evolution of CRP and Recognition Fundamentals (RF) curriculum. She is a founding RPI board member and co-chairs the Learning Action Team.


Vicki Hargrove, Ph.D, CRP, Hargrove Business Consulting

Dr. Vicki Hargrove formed Hargrove Business Consulting in 2011 after retiring from Cargill, Inc., with 28 years experience. She works with businesses across the globe in the area of recognition, performance management, leadership effectiveness, innovation, change, and employee engagement. While at Cargill, she was responsible for writing the RPI Best Practices' application that resulted in an Overall Best Practice Award in 2008. She worked to improve the visibility of recognition across 60+ businesses and 150,000 employees through incorporating recognition behaviors into the performance management process, leading two corporate-wide recognition events for 1,000 participants, building a recognition website and developing a recognition guide to ensure common language and understanding.

Vicki has been involved with RPI for over 10 years. She is a contributor to the revision of all RPI courses both for instructor-led and online delivery and serves on the Learning Action Team. She was recognized for her service to RPI and the recognition industry with the Harkins-Howell Excellence in Education Award in 2016.

Vicki is a graduate of Murray State University with her B.S. and M.A. degrees and The Ohio State University with her Ph.D. degree. She authored Make Someone Smile and The Smile Experience which focus on developing appreciation skills to make others feel good and acknowledge their contributions.

This favorite quote of Vicki's shows how expressing appreciation to others can lead to a better, happier world: It is said a butterfly can flap its wings in the United States and cause a change in the air that results in a hurricane halfway across the globe. Your acts of kindness and appreciation may inspire others to act likewise which may in turn inspire others, accelerating a ripple effect of ever spreading happiness. These actions create an amazing impact by making the world happier one person at a time.


Theresa Harkins, CRP, CCP, SPHR, Inspirus

Theresa HarkinsTheresa is a visionary, strategic leader as indicated by the achievement of such esteemed certifications as the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and Certified Compensation Professional (CCP). She was an early innovator in the deployment of global enterprise employee recognition strategies by using her training and facilitation skills and knowledge to assist in the implementation of these initiatives. As a chartered professional in the recognition industry, Theresa eliminated the splintered recognition approach in her organization by creating an aggregated program structure to provide a sense of unity and consistency in the company. With this desire, Theresa led the development of the award-winning best practice recognition programs at Delta Air Lines.

Theresa currently leads the Solutions division at Inspirus, where she consults with clients as a respected expert in the industry to design recognition programs that align with the organization's cultural goals and needs.

As a long-term member of RPI, she has served in many leadership roles over the years including President of RPI in 2007. She continues to sit on the RPI board and is a member of the Learning Action Team.


Ryan Maddux, MA, CRP, WLCP, Wells Fargo

Ryan MadduxRyan Maddux, Business Initiatives Consultant with Enterprise Talent (HR) at Wells Fargo, focuses on enhancing team member engagement through professional development, coaching, recognition, and wellness programming. Passionate about diversity and inclusion, team member recognition, and innovation, Ryan brings over 20 years of industry experience from work with non-profit, government, and Fortune 100 companies in the areas of Human Resources (HR), leadership coaching, marketing, and technology. Ryan works with business leaders and HR professionals to develop effective team member experience programming, directly aligned with core retention and talent management strategies.

Ryan completed his MA in Organizational Leadership from Augsburg College and also holds an MA degree from Humboldt State University. He completed the Work-Life Certified Professional® (WLCP®) certification through WorldatWork®. Ryan is a member of RPI and sits on the Learning Action Team.


Rita Maehling, CRP, HLT Medical.

RPI board member, Rita Maehling, is an independent consultant specializing in HR and learning and development activities with an emphasis on employee recognition. In past positions, she served in a variety of HR capacities in medical device and manufacturing organizations.

Rita has been involved with the CRP curriculum development since its inception, is a current RPI board member and co-chairs the Learning Action Team. Her recognition-related insight is: It's not so much the systems and programs as it is the culture which helps recognition thrive.


Barbara Ruddy, CRP, STARS - Staff Training & Recognition Services

Barbara brings to RPI more than 20 years of experience in the field of employee recognition. As a long time employee with the State of Arizona, Department of Economic Security, an organization of almost 10,000 employees, Barbara was responsible for the design, implementation and on-going management of an employee recognition system that has served as a model for many other organizations. In these roles, Barbara helped others realize that recognition isn't just a nice thing to do; it’s a smart business strategy for success.

As an active supporter of RPI since 1998, Barbara chairs the “Pamela Sabin Recognition Champion Award Program” committee. In addition to being a CRP and RF facilitator, Barbara is a member of the RPI Community Action Team striving to strengthen the engagement of current members and build membership to share best practices in the field of employee recognition for all organizations, large and small.

One of Barbara’s favorite quotes is from Maya Angelou: I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. Sometimes all it takes is a genuine smile!


R. Scott Russell, CRP

R. Scott RussellScott is a 20-year veteran of event management and recognition from his days as a concert promoter in Southern California to his most recent 12-year stint in Operations (Employee Experience) with Verizon Wireless. Scott is currently the Director of Client Success for the C.A. Short Company based in North Carolina. He works day in and day out to promote the value of recognition and engagement to his staff, his clients, and others.

Scott writes an ongoing web series on Random Acts of Engagement and is an accomplished public speaker. As a music lover and musician himself, Scott has worked over the years with many artists and you may even catch him singing a song or two at our annual RPI conference. He was instrumental in managing the recent overhaul of the CRP curriculum and is excited to see it brought to the masses with the launch of the online curriculum in 2017. Scott is an Executive RPI Board member and chairs the RPI Community Action Team.

Scott loves this motto and swears he lives by it: If at first you don’t succeed, redefine success.


Roy Saunderson, CRP, Recognition Management Institute

Roy SaundersonRoy is Chief Learning Officer of Rideau’s Vistance Institute (formerly the Recognition Management Institute), its consulting, education and thought leadership division. He is a subject matter expert on how to give real recognition the right way wherever people are. He serves on RPI’s Learning Action Team and is the longest serving judge on the Best Practices Awards Committee. Roy brings a unique perspective to employee recognition as a former director of Speech-Language Pathology, where he saw the clinical impact of the power of words on human performance.

Roy has written some of the “most read” online columns advising people how to get recognition, incentives, and rewards used the right way. He is the author of Giving the Real Recognition Way and a popular columnist in Incentive Magazine and Training Magazine, as well as his AuthenticRecognition.com blog.
